Ken’s Weight Loss Story!

I’m now 75 pounds lighter in less than four months with no exercise! At 57 years old and overweight, I had three main arteries clogged (one a 100%) which caused my heart attack. I was in the hospital for 3 days. While in the hospital I was served 3 delicious meals per day and had no cravings for in-between meals which is very unusual for me because I love to eat.

Before I left the hospital I had a sit down with the nutritionist in charge of patient meals to find out how this was possible. She told me how it was done and that those delicious filling meals I was eating were only adding up to about 2,100 calories per day. I was losing weight lying in bed!

I decided right then and there that this was for me and this exactly was how I was going to lose weight and get healthy. It wasn’t a new diet, it was changing the way I eat! Also, my heart doctor had just told me that I had to lose weight or I would be headed for another heart attack.

I was excited to get started, in fact I didn’t skip a beat. My last meal in the hospital was breakfast and my lunch was at home. In less than four months I lost over 75 pounds without exercising. I am exercising now but it’s not my favorite thing to do.

After coming home from the hospital I was back to work in less than a week and I can tell you that after a long day at the office the last thing I’m thinking about is exercise. I want to spend time with my beautiful wife, my dog, eat a great meal, watch a little T.V. and go to bed so I’m ready for the next day.

This new way of eating worked for me so quickly and easily that once I had hit my goal weight I had to increase my portions and calories each day just to keep from losing more weight! Thanks to that hospital nutritionist I found a new healthy and delicious way of eating. My doctor can’t believe the turn around not only with my weight loss but with my test results I received back after my check ups.

You may be asking yourself what this new way of eating was that helped me lose all the weight. Well, it was just watching my sugar intake and the key is eating three meals per day including dessert which is always fruit. It’s been almost one year and I have maintained my weight loss and my health continues to only improve. At this rate, I just may live forever! It’s amazing how almost dying can teach you a lot about living!

Ken’s Weight Loss Interview!

When did you become unhappy with your weight?

What made you decide to lose weight?
I had a heart attack and lived. The doctor said I would probably have another one if I didn’t lose weight and eat differently.

What were the most important changes you made to lose weight?
I eat three complete meals per day. Each meal includes a protein, veggie and fruit.

What was most challenging about losing weight?
It wasn’t challenging at all. I was able to eat better than I was eating for the last 30 years. For the first time I’m not hungry in between meals and I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything special. By eating 3 complete meals I feel and my body certainly feels full and satisfied.

How long did it take you to start to see results?
1 week.

How long did it take for you to reach your current weight?
Less than 4 months.

How long have you maintained your weight loss and how do you do it?
I have maintained my weight loss for 8 months. I continue to eat the new way (three complete meals per day).

What keeps you motivated to continue your weight loss success?
I have two other arteries that are clogged and my doctor feels I can reverse it and I am reversing it! My numbers are great after every test.

How has your life changed now that you’ve lost weight?
I feel good! I’m a better husband, lover and father. I want to live a happier life and what I put into my mouth is the biggest part of making that happen.

Do you have any advice for others who are trying to lose weight?
Yes, especially if you have heart disease. You need to consider changing the way you eat because it tastes better, feels better and will quite possibly keep you from having heart problems. I learned this new way of eating from my doctor and the hospital nutritionist.
