Lori’s Weight Loss Story!

I really wanted to share my story because I want young girls to know that it is possible to lose weight without going on a specific diet, joining a gym, starving themselves or having surgery. You can also keep it off for years and years. I lost 100+ pounds without every going on a diet or stepping foot in a gym. When I was younger, I tried every diet known to man and they just didn’t work. I wish I had known back then that all it took was a total lifestyle change. I literally woke up one day and just started moving! That and I decided to completely change the way I eat. If only I had someone to look up to back then, maybe the journey would have happened quicker. I grew up in a family where NO ONE had a weight issue. I mean NO ONE!

So many young girls feel so hopeless. They feel defeated because they think they need to have success on some fad diet to lose weight. Or to spend hundreds of dollars at a gym. I get so sad when I see young women taking drastic measures, trying to just get some weight off. It also DISGUSTS me when I see them being made fun of. I want to walk up to all those bullies and say, “Hey look at me, I used to be overweight and look at me now”. Someday you may eat those words. I am AMAZED at how many of the guys that used to make fun of me daily, are now hitting on me. SORRY, nothing changed inside fellas!

People need to know that it is not okay to make fun of people with weight issues. It is SO hard to be overweight. From the time I was 5, I was made fun every single day. I remember being at a college party and having a guy yell, “Hey we better call a tow truck to get her home”. It is so unfair and doing such damage to so many people. If I can inspire one person whether it be male or female, to lose weight, I will be happy. I also want women who have lost weight and are pregnant, to know it is possible to keep the weight down and get it off. I gained 19 pounds with each pregnancy and had 2 kids in 18 months. I turn 40 in 10 days and I am in the best shape of my life. I never feel deprived and I eat everything in moderation.

Another thing that I feel my story will do is also show people who even though “The Biggest Loser” is AWESOME, it is not realistic for about 99% of the population. What I did and continue to do is way more achievable. We need more focus on lifestyle change but one that is manageable. Like I said, I eat! It took 25 years to get there, but I did it. I only wish I knew then what I know now, that you can get the weight off without spending money and committing to fad diets and gyms.

Lori’s Weight Loss Interview!

When did you become unhappy with your weight?
I was a very overweight child and teenager.

What made you decide to lose weight?
One day I woke up and said enough is enough. I was in an abusive marriage and he left me. I was tired of being unhappy and made fun of. I was also tired of feeling so run down and tired. I grew up in a home with 2 beautiful sisters who are naturally thin and parents who were thin. It was so hard to be the “fat one” with the “pretty face”. I never fit in and I was so self conscious and shy. My weight kept me from even going away to college. I was just too embarrassed and knew I would be made fun of. I remember the day when I woke up, got dressed and started walking. That is what began my journey.

What were the most important changes you made to lose weight?
Diet and exercise. I made a complete lifestyle change.

What was most challenging about losing weight?
The eating part was most challenging and making the commitment to workout.

How long did it take you to start to see results?
About 3 months.

How long did it take for you to reach your current weight?
It was a 2 year journey.

How long have you maintained your weight loss and how do you do it?
It will be 20 years! I have since had two children and kept all the weight off. I am turning 40 in a few days and this marks a huge milestone for me, 20 years of being healthy.

How has your life changed now that you’ve lost weight?
I am a much happier person. I am way more outgoing and love to eat healthy and workout. I just want people, especially young girls and young women, to see me and realize, they too can do it. Also women who have struggled with not wanting to get pregnant because they fear they will get fat again. I was able to have 2 kids in 18 months and eat healthy and exercise the entire time.

How did ShapeFit help you reach your weight loss goals?
ShapeFit.com helped keep me motivated by reading about real people’s weight loss stories and seeing real ways to keep the weight off and stay motivated without “dieting”. My weight loss has never been about a diet, since those do not work. I made a complete lifestyle change and have stayed committed for 20 years. I want to share this so I can hopefully inspire young women that are struggling and think they will never get to where they want to. I have no idea how big my clothes size was, I stopped counting at elastic. I am now wearing size 28 True Religion jeans and I’m in the best shape of my life, at almost 40! It is okay to dream big. I did and great things happened!
