Shelley’s Weight Loss Story!

About three years ago, I lost 28 pounds. My starting weight was 138 pounds and with a healthy diet and exercise, I went down to 110 pounds. I maintained this weight until last year, when I lost another 10 pounds due to a lot of stress that was going on in my life. This put my weight at an all time low of 100 pounds, which was not near enough on my 5’5″ frame. Since then, I have gained back 16 pounds and feel better than I ever have! I weigh 116 pounds now, which may not sound like enough, but I am small boned with a small frame. I feel better than I ever have! I go to the gym with my husband and we ride bikes together.

I’m 55 years old, have been married for 37 years and I’m a mom to four amazing kids and four beautiful grandchildren! I work hard to keep myself fit. I have had no cosmetic surgery. Not that I’m against plastic surgery but I just can’t fit it into my budget right now not to mention the fact that I’m a big chicken! I get a high from working out and for an old lady, I think I look okay!

Shelley’s Weight Loss Interview!

When did you become unhappy with your weight?
I gained 28 pounds after starting perimenopause. I went into a depression and just let myself go.

What made you decide to lose weight?
After our daughter had our first grandbaby, I decided it was time to get with it and get out of my funk! We now have four beautiful little grandkids who are the light of my life! I want to be able to keep up with them!

What were the most important changes you made to lose weight?
I started eating healthier and working out at a gym! My husband and I ride bikes together and we workout with machines and free weights five times a week!

What was most challenging about losing weight?
Having to give up all the junk food I was eating! I love food! Also, losing it so slow. The last diet I went on before this one, I was 28 years old and the weight just fell off. I lost a pound a day! This last diet, I was over 50 years old and I was doing good to lose two pounds a week!

How long did it take you to start to see results?
About a month!

How long did it take for you to reach your current weight?
It took me about four months to get down to a decent weight, but then I went too far since I had a lot of stress going on at the time and I ended up losing too much weight! I know this makes some people sick, but I had to work just as hard to lose the weight initially. It just didn’t take me as long as it would take someone who needs to lose more weight than I did.

How long have you maintained your weight loss and how do you do it?
I lost my weight about three years ago. I looked and felt good but then lost more than I should have last year. I managed to gain it back and get to my present weight, about 8 months ago.

How has your life changed now that you’ve lost weight?
I have more energy and feel so much better!
