Whitney’s Weight Loss Interview!

How much did you lose?
I have lost 58 pounds and went from a size 20 to a size 12!

When did you become unhappy with your weight?
I have struggled off and on with my weight as an adult. Reaching 236 pounds was the heaviest I have ever been and I was miserable.

What made you decide to lose weight?
I was uncomfortable in my own skin and was embarrassed about how big I had gotten. Also, my blood pressure was high and I knew I had to do something to change my life for the better as far as my weight.

What were the most important changes you made to lose weight?
Exercising at least 5 days a week for 35 minutes minimum. I walked on the treadmill at home for the first year because I was too embarrassed to go to the gym. I watched all seasons of Breaking Bad while walking on the treadmill. I also went on what I call the “Taco Bell diet”. For lunch every day during the work week I had a bean burrito and a diet Pepsi. The beans filled me up and were satisfying. Before I changed my eating habits I was a sugar junky (Jelly Beans, Twix Bars, cookies, etc). I could eat a whole bag of jelly beans in a day and I used to do it. I knew I had to cut that all out to become healthy and to lose weight.

What was the most challenging thing you had to deal with during your weight loss journey?
Saying no to candy and foods I loved. I live in the South and anything fried is wonderful. It was hard to keep walking on the treadmill day in and day out but I did it and I still do it to keep the weight off.

How long did it take you to start to see results?
Within 3 months I started to lose weight. I reached my goal of 180 pounds in about 15 months. I have kept the weight off for over 2 years and counting.

How long did it take for you to reach your current weight?
15 months.

How long have you maintained your weight loss and what are the most important factors for keeping it off?
I have maintained my weight loss for over 2 years now. I have realized that exercise is the key to keeping the weight off plus eating right at least 5 days a week. I joined a gym and go 5 times a week minimum. I eat healthy most days but do allow some cheating but in moderation.

What keeps you motivated to continue your weight loss success?
I finally feel comfortable in my skin which is a wonderful feeling. Do I have a perfect body? No. But I am fine with that. I love myself and who I am. I feel good in my clothes and I feel healthy finally! My blood pressure is back to normal and I feel great!

How has your life changed now that you have lost weight?
I feel more secure in my own skin and it reflects outward in both my job (sales) and in my personal life. I have been happily married for 22 years and my husband has loved me both overweight and not. But I feel better and more secure with myself which means I am happier to be around.

Do you have any advice for others who are trying to lose weight?
Exercise (walking is great) and count calories. I used a fitness app where I inputted my calories and exercises to keep track and that worked great for me and kept me accountable.

How did ShapeFit help you reach your weight loss goals?
Reading ShapeFit’s articles and suggestions helped me with what I needed to do and kept me motivated.
