Kelsey’s Weight Loss Interview!

How much did you lose (pounds, inches, dress/pants size)?
I lost 135 pounds and 10-12 pants sizes!

When did you become unhappy with your weight?
I was overweight my entire life and always unhappy with it.

What made you decide to lose weight?
I had always wanted to lose weight, but taking a family vacation really made me motivated to try. It was going to be my first trip to the beach and I didn’t want feeling self-conscious to ruin the trip for me.

What were the most important changes you made to lose weight?
Eating fewer calories and monitoring them was definitely one of the most important changes I made. Before losing weight, I was consuming thousands of calories a day and didn’t even realize it. As soon as I cut back on them, I definitely noticed results.

What was the most challenging thing you had to deal with during your weight loss journey?
Changing the way I ate was the most challenging part of my weight loss journey. After being overweight my whole life, making such a dramatic change was difficult to deal with.

How long did it take you to start to see results?
I started losing weight within the first month of my journey. Seeing physical changes took longer, though. I don’t think I personally noticed differences in myself until I was a few months in.

How long did it take for you to reach your current weight?
It took 15 months to get to my current weight.

How long have you maintained your weight loss and what are the most important factors for keeping it off?
I have maintained my current weight for three years. The most important factor for keeping it off is staying consistent. It was very important to keep in mind that maintaining my current weight meant that I could not revert back to my old habits.

What keeps you motivated to continue your weight loss success?
I know how hard I worked and struggled to get where I am, so that keeps me motivated to continue being successful. All of my hard work would then be for nothing and I’m not going to give my success away that easily.

How has your life changed now that you have lost weight?
My life has changed immensely since I’ve lost weight. I became more comfortable with myself, which made me more confident in life. I am a much more outgoing person now. I want to meet new people and talk to them. I no longer want to stay hidden away because I am unhappy with myself.

Do you have any advice for others who are trying to lose weight?
Try to avoid comparing your journey to someone else’s. Everyone’s journey is different. What works for someone else may not work for you. That means you have to find what specific workouts and diet plans work for you and which ones you like. You may make progress sooner than someone else, or it may take longer. This is a journey about yourself! Comparing this difficult process to others will only be discouraging. You are you, not them. Stay focused and consistent and you will be successful!

How did ShapeFit help you reach your weight loss goals?

Kelsey’s Weight Loss Tips!

Weight Loss Tip #1:
If you stop seeing progress with your weight loss, make changes to what you’re currently doing. Mix up your workouts by changing the length or difficulty of them and the type of training. If you constantly do the same thing the same way, your body will get used to it and you’ll likely hit the dreaded plateau!

Weight Loss Tip #2:
Don’t be afraid of weights! Strength training is a great addition to your weight loss plan! Doing cardio alone will make it a more difficult process.

Weight Loss Tip #3:
Make sure you’re eating foods you like. Not all healthy foods are horrible! If you’re eating foods you hate, your weight loss journey will be miserable!

Weight Loss Tip #4:
Don’t overthink your exercise plan. If you’re going to workout when you get home from work, plan it and don’t think about it again. Don’t make it an option. The more you think about it and how much you may not want to workout, the more likely you are to avoid it. Set a time and do it!

Weight Loss Tip #5:
Workout at least five days a week for at least 30 minutes per session. I feel this was very beneficial for me. It wasn’t too long, so if I didn’t want to workout I knew it would be over soon!

Kelsey’s Weight Loss Workouts!

What do you do for weight training?
When I started, I would do light free weight exercises that I would find in magazines or online along with different bodyweight exercises. Now I’ve started working out with heavier weights!

What do you do for cardio training?
When I started working out, I would walk and do aerobic exercises. Currently, I am participating in races like 5Ks, 10Ks and soon I will do my first half marathon! So walking and running are my main cardio exercises.
