Meme’s Weight Loss Interview!

How much did you lose?
I lost 58 pounds! I started in a women’s size 16 and now I’m in a junior’s size 9!

When did you become unhappy with your weight?
I’ve struggled with my weight my entire life but I became very unhappy 3 years ago when I hit my highest weight ever of 228 pounds. I’ve always managed to stay under the 190’s before this.

What made you decide to lose weight?
I decided to get serious when I found out that I was going to be the maid of honor in my sister’s destination wedding in Trinidad. In addition, I was suffering from knee pain, back pain and I was winded walking short distances, which was very embarrassing.

What were the most important changes you made to lose weight?
Definitely my diet! I was allowing myself to cheat too often and didn’t realize that the things I was putting in my body were severely affecting my health. Everything else followed once I cleaned the toxins out of my body (i.e., exercise).

What was the most challenging thing you had to deal with during your weight loss journey?
Not seeing results as quickly as I thought I should. I was feeling as if I wasn’t doing something right but I kept pushing forward and I’m so happy I did.

How long did it take you to start to see results?
It took about 6 weeks to see a difference. My clothes were looser and I was able to compare my before and during photos.

How long did it take for you to reach your current weight?
It took me 7 months to reach my current weight.

How long have you maintained your weight loss and what are the most important factors for keeping it off?
I hit my weight loss goal 3 months ago and I am still working on toning and losing more weight.

What keeps you motivated to continue your weight loss success?
I was featured in my company’s fitness magazine, newsletter, fitness posters and now I am the face of the gym’s website where I train at. They were truly inspired by my persistence and dedication. I want to continue to inspire people since I have a lot of people coming to me for advice and support. It feels so great!

How has your life changed now that you have lost weight?
I am happy! I am so much healthier, active and finally able to appreciate my body and the ability it has. I’ve learned what is truly healthy and have turned my life around in so many ways.

Do you have any advice for others who are trying to lose weight?
Don’t give up! Remember results take time. In many cases, it takes 6 weeks for you to see a difference, 8 weeks for your family and friends to see a difference and 12 weeks for the world to see a difference! Don’t let this detour you though because this journey is all about YOU!

How did ShapeFit help you reach your weight loss goals?
I would visit ShapeFit.com often to read their inspiring weight loss success stories. I read all of the different stories which included the ups and downs along with great tips on how to move forward. Whenever I felt like giving up, I would come to ShapeFit and remember why I was doing what I was doing.

Meme’s Weight Loss Tips!

Weight Loss Tip #1:
Don’t give up! Results take time.

Weight Loss Tip #2:
Find a healthy eating style that works for you so you can stick to it.

Weight Loss Tip #3:
Incorporate exercise slowly. If you overdo it in the beginning you may experience pain or fatigue and give up. Just like weight loss, building strength takes time.

Weight Loss Tip #4:
Get your family and friends involved so you have their much needed support.

Weight Loss Tip #5:
My favorite tip is to take LOTS of pictures. Don’t be embarrassed to share them because the before, during and after photos will inspire more people than you know!

Meme’s Weight Loss Eating Plan!

What do you normally eat for breakfast?
meme-weight-loss-story-5I make “egg muffins” which include 2 eggs, veggies or Canadian bacon and a little cheese. Just like it sounds, they are mini muffins that I can take anywhere!

What do you normally eat for lunch?
Protein and veggies (chicken or fish and broccoli, cauliflower, etc.).

What do you normally eat for dinner?
The same as lunch. Protein and veggies (Chicken or fish and broccoli, cauliflower, etc.).

What do you normally eat for snacks?
No sugar protein shake with PB2 (low calorie peanut butter) or mozzarella cheese sticks.

What type of nutritional supplements do you take?
I don’t currently take any supplements.

Meme’s Weight Loss Workouts!

What do you do for weight training?
I typically weight train for 1 to 1.5 hours a day. Here is an example of my workout schedule:

  • Monday: Legs
  • Tuesday: Back and biceps
  • Wednesday: Chest
  • Thursday: Shoulders and triceps
  • Friday: Full body workout
  • Weekends: Optional

What do you do for cardio training?
I do 45 minutes of cardio but I like to mix it up. An example would be 20 minutes jogging on the treadmill then 25 minutes of high intensity interval training on the elliptical. On leg day, I will jog slowly backwards at a level 20 incline on the treadmill to warm-up.
