If Your Social Life Revolves Around Food, Your Weight Loss May Suffer (Here’s How)

Sometimes, while on a weight loss journey, it can feel like people are out to get you. A friend offering you a piece of cake, can be met with extreme criticism. Don’t they know how hard you are working? Are they trying to sabotage you? Are they mocking you?

It is easy to become so concerned about gaining weight back that everything appears to be a threat. Everything and everyone. But if you think about it, this likely isn’t the case. Step outside for a moment.

So much of our social culture is centered around food. We meet each other for lunch. We celebrate over dinner. My best friend and I have breakfast at a local greasy spoon each and every weekend. Is she trying to make me fat? No. She’s just hanging out.

If meeting your pals in food establishments is messing with your weight, your emotions and your willpower, you have the strength to change that.

Instead of heading to that greasy spoon for your Sunday brunch, suggest a different plan. Grab a coffee and go for a walk together instead. During the summer season there is no excuse to skip going outside. Besides, this plan emphasizes the most important part of your meet — time together.

Your friendships should be about time together and not about what you’re eating. There might be resistance but that might also be a person you don’t really need in your life. Who’s to say?

Remember, your health and your well being are foremost. If something isn’t working for you, don’t be afraid to change it.
