How To Torch Fat From Your Body (And Keep It Off!)

So often people talk about beginning a fitness journey in an effort to lose ‘weight.’ That is a worthwhile goal but it is also a bit of a complicated one. Your weight is probably one of the least accurate ways to measure your success. As you build lean muscle, you are actually likely to end up weighing more. A better way to talk about your journey is in terms of fat loss. Focusing on fat loss allows you to pay closer attention to how your body looks and feels instead of an easily fluctuating number on the scale.

If fat loss is your aim, there are two things to keep in mind. They are how you exercise and what you eat.

Work smart, not hard when it comes to exercise.

Your workouts don’t need to go on for hours. If you include weight training and HIIT (high intensity interval training) style workouts you will be burning through your fat and building lean muscle before you know it. HIIT training is great because it elevates your metabolism and continues to burn calories after you’ve stopped working out. One of the best parts about HIIT workouts is the time commitment. You could be getting a fat blasting, body sculpting workout in under 30 minutes! Who doesn’t love that idea? If you’re looking for a short but effective routine, check out SweatFlix℠. Eat the right stuff.

It doesn’t matter how hard you work out. If you are not eating properly, you will not see the results you would like. If you’d like to eat food that will help you burn more fat, follow these simple guidelines:

  • Eat enough to fuel your body. Starving yourself will not help you lose fat. It might work when you first try it but it will all come back once you begin to eat normally again. It is important to eat enough food to maintain metabolic functioning and to provide your body with the nutrients it needs. Undereating can actually cause your body to believe it is starving which leads to an increased storage of fat. Try to eat regularly, in small amounts. And don’t forget that complex carbohydrates can be your friend. They help you to absorb protein which is good for building lean muscle. The more muscle you have, the more calories you will burn.

  • Eat whole foods. Packaged and processed foods have next to no nutritional value when compared to whole foods. They are also full of chemicals and additives that may be doing your body some serious harm. When choosing what you put in your body, try to choose foods that are as close to their natural state as possible. Doing this will provide your body and all of its cells with what it needs not only for energy but for healing, recovery and basic functioning. Stick to lean proteins, complex carbs, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds. For more information on clean eating, you can check out our Body Rock Meal Plan!
