Is Fat the Key to Losing Weight?

Since the "fat-free craze" began, statistics show we are gaining more weight as every year goes by. Just because a food says it's fat-free doesn't mean it's calorie-free or for that matter, a healthy food. As you lose weight, you need to get an understanding of high density lipoprotiens, and learn how they help you. You want to lose the fat from your body, not from your diet. The plain and simple truth is that we all need a certain amount of fat in our diets. The key to success is to get the healthy fats into our bodies in the correct proportions. Today, the words "FAT-FREE," call those of us who are dieting around the world, and packages of all types of food include advertisements making claims that they are healthy foods because they are low fat or fat free. However, as conscientious weight watchers shop for fat-free foods week after week, many discover that they are losing the battle to dieting and their weight continues to rise! Why this is, you may ask. Let's take a look at what we have been told throughout the years.

Although we've been taught to think of fat as the culprit for our weight gain, clearly this is only part of the whole picture of living a more healthy and active life. Just because a food is fat-free doesn't mean it's calorie-free or healthy. Many fat-free foods actually are high in sugar and carbohydrate calories. And these calories, when eaten in excess, become converted into the one thing we've been trying to overcome-fat! Now that "fat free" food has helped to gain a few more pounds! Eating the right fats is important in helping you to lose the fat from your body, while eating the wrong fats will do the opposite. Ironically, we need some good fats to help us burn fat and lose weight. When trying to lose weight, we must understand why a well-balanced diet that includes enough "good fats," such as those found in fish and olive oil is important. By avoiding the "fat free" craze and giving your body all the nourishment it needs, you'll lose weight steadily and feel healthier along the way.

As you feel better, you will find that you want to include other healthy aspects into your lifestyle. So, remember that fat can be one of the keys to losing weight!
