How To Get Your Body Naturally Burning Fat

We are coming into a new age of fitness and exercise where a persons "metabolic fitness" is considered more important then simply 'burning calories' during an exercise session.

Less emphasis is on body weight or even body fat and more emphasis is being placed on having a healthy metabolism - becoming 'metabolically fit'. This means that the hormonal environment in the body is geared towards burning fat for energy rather than storing it and becoming a health risk.

One of the main hormones involved is the chemical messenger insulin whose job is to direct sugar in the blood into the muscle cells to be burnt up for energy. If the body becomes resistant to this hormone sugar remains in the circulating blood and ends up in places where it shouldn't be causing damage to cells, tissues and organs.

Having healthy metabolic fitness means that the body will have excellent glucose tolerance, normal blood pressure and a healthy blood lipid (fats) profile which means it there will be a lower risk for heart disease and diabetes.

The major causes of insulin resistance are lack of enough muscle building and maintaining activity and a diet high in refined sugar, high in fat and low in fiber. This is of course the standard diet of much of the world's population so explains why this condition is very common. Although an overweight person is more likely to have this condition people who are not overweight can have it as well. An estimated one-fourth of Americans are insulin resistant and do not realize it.

The solution to this risky situation is to simply start a proper exercise program that works the muscular system so that fats and sugars are burnt up in the muscle cells before they can do harm. Keep in mind that low intensity activities like walking are largely ineffective as they do not quality as proper exercise. Strength training is the correct exercise to be doing to get the muscles working under a load.

The point of doing this sort of exercise is not to simply 'burn off' calories while you are at the gym, but rather to tell the body to grow and become stronger. The object is to build new tissue which means it will run at a higher metabolic rate every single minute of the day and night even while resting. Those extra calories being burnt means they will not be hanging around in the blood stream causing mischief. It will also mean you will lose the extra body fat that has piled up on your body.

Science is now squashing the idea that low intensity activities like walking, jogging or cycling are enough to remain healthy and well. We are coming out of the dark ages in regards to what actually qualifies as proper exercise and applying a new understanding of the impact activity that works the muscles has on hormones and metabolism. This is what dramatically affect the processing and use of energy and the hormonal signals it creates.

To achieve the optimal state of hormonal balance that will have you constantly burning fat for energy is called the metabolic effect and proper exercise is the chief means of accessing it so you can be strong, lean, slim and healthy and never have to even utter that word 'diet' again.
