More Brits Try Slimming Pills

A significant number of British people said they would try slimming pills in order to lose weight as the likelihood of an obesity epidemic increases.

Research by YouGov, commissioned by the British Society of Gastroenterology, revealed that 21 per cent of London residents would turn to weight loss products to combat the growing threat of obesity.

The investigation also found that women would rather sample supplements such as t5 fat burners and t5 slimming pills than attempt fad diets.

Just five per cent of females said they would try the controversial Atkins diet in order to fight the flab.

President of The British Society of Gastroenterology Chris Hawkey said that more needs to be done to promote healthy eating and educate people about diets as Britain is losing the battle of the bulge.

Professor Chris Hawkey predicts that 90 per cent of British adults will be overweight or obese by 2050 if nothing is done to change the nation's current eating habits.

He said: "The problem facing society is not the content of our diet but it's the quantity we are consuming and the consequential impact of obesity.

"Food has been shrouded in myths and fairytales since time immemorial as people argue over what is good for you, what should be avoided or eaten to your heart's content."

Professor Hawkey went onto say that people who want to lose weight fast should shun trendy diet crazes and address their relationship with food and exercise for lasting results.

"We need to do away with quirky diets and get people to realise what will keep them healthy in the long run," he added.

There was some positive news for the future of Britain's health as the research also discovered that only two per cent of people thought that the Atkins diet is good for you.

A research team from the University of Surrey found that people who lost the greatest amount of weight on slimming pills reduced how much fatty junk food they usually consumed.

The scientists found that slimming pills can psychologically encourage someone to eat more healthily as the supplements help people recognise that their diet is the main cause of their weight problem.

It is vital that people ditch diet crazes and opt for a balanced diet and regular exercise instead.

Some of the strangest celebrity diets have included Rawism, which requires people to eat only uncooked food and the Hallelujah diet, which only allows people to consume fruit and seed bearing trees on the basis of Genesis 1.29.
