Weight-Loss; How The Correct Choice of Diet Can Make The Difference Between Success and Failure

With unwanted weight blighting the lives of so many, it is unsurprising that the weight-loss industry is worth billions annually. Given the vast array of products to be had, the conundrum for many is; why does their quest for the idea body prove so elusive?

We鈥檙e all familiar with diets such as the low fat, low carb and calorie controlled, not to mention the Hollywood, Scarsdale and the Atkins, to mention but a (miniscule) few. Whilst some experience varying levels of achievement for the majority, little seems to work with any degree of permanence, raising the question; is it that the diet doesn鈥檛 work or, the dieter that doesn鈥檛 work (stick to) the diet?

For many the issue isn鈥檛 that the diet per se doesn鈥檛 work in truth, in theory at least, the largest part probably do, the snag being that the particular regime simply proves too gruelling to stick to.

Consider this; every day our body uses a certain amount of calories the amount dependant upon variants such as body size, rapidity of metabolism and levels of physical activity. If we consume and burn up a similar amount of calories our weight will remain constant; if we consume more than we burn, weight will be gained, whilst consuming a lesser amount than we burn, weight will be lost; a really straightforward but highly accurate formula.

Therefore any diet that reduces or completely eliminates a calories dense food category such as fats or carbohydrates will lead to weight-loss, simply because the overall amount of calories consumed will have been decreased. The challenge for many therefore is the issue of 鈥榮tickability鈥? put another way, the ability to see the plan through to a successful conclusion; what therefore is the solution?

The only way to achieve your target weight and stick to it permanently is to find a weight-loss plan that suits your lifestyle and tastes. Simply because your friend has enjoyed success with a particular regime doesn鈥檛 necessarily mean that you will too. The golden rule therefore is to choose a plan that is right for you, as such it is necessary to consider the following issues:

1. Lifestyle: are you busy, always on the go have little time to prepare special meals, to weigh foods or count points? If so then clearly there is no point in setting yourself up to fail by following a diet that makes demands you are simply unable to fulfil.
2. Personal tastes: what foods do you enjoy? For example it鈥檚 no good choosing a low-carb plan if you consider it impossible to sacrifice such things as rice, bread, pasta and potatoes for a while.

Research different plans and be honest with yourself, can you really see yourself following it? Bear in mind that if you have in excess of 12lbs to lose you are likely to be following the plan for at least four weeks are you likely to stay the course?

Not only can failed diets leave us with physical discomfort but constant disappointments cause us to become frustrated, depressed and lacking in self-confidence. It is therefore imperative that you spend time planning and choosing a weight-loss plan that is right for you, this done and you will be halfway to success!
