How to Lose Weight by Getting Back Into the Swing of Things

Although you may have put off eating right and exercising all summer, now is a GREAT time to put into action those weight-loss and healthy lifestyle goals.

Why?

Because it's time to get back into a regular routine. Having a routine helps you establish regular times and places to eat, making it easier to plan healthy choices.

But I know it can be tough to get back to eating right and exercising when our minds are still stuck in the summertime mode.

So here are a few things you can do to get back into the swing of things:

1) Get motivated. I often read motivational books for that extra support in order to reach my goals. I also listen to audio books and material which I put into my iPod. I'll listen to them when I’m walking, jogging, or during an afternoon break.

2) Hang around champions. Surround yourself with people who will encourage you to work and achieve your goals. Be around people who are going to lift you higher, not bring you down.

Are your friends or family sabotaging your weight-loss or health goals? If so, you need to find other people to support you in your efforts.

3) Have a plan. Meet with a nutrition counselor and make a plan for the new year without waiting until January. Outline the steps you will need to be successful and your nutrition counselor will keep you accountable and on track. Imagine how much better you’ll feel going into the new year knowing you’ve already had a few months of preparation!

4) Make a date. Plan to participate in a group that can give you motivation and support in achieving your goals. Looking to exercise more? Join a walking, running, or biking group.

Want to lose weight? Get some friends and lose weight together.

With my small group coaching program you can gather some of your friends, family or co-workers and work with me together. You get the benefit of having support, advice, and coaching from me - but you’ll have the extra advantage of additional motivation and interaction with the group.

5) Read health newsletters, magazines, and books. If you know of a nutrition counselor or if there's someone you connect with, register for their newsletter to get weekly or monthly tips. In addition you can read magazines or books that appeal to you. It's amazing the number of people who enjoy my weekly newsletter, and tell me they often refer to and use them for motivation. It's always helpful to get new tips, tricks and advice to help you stay on track!

Getting back into the swing of things and reaching your goals can be easier and less daunting than you think. The key is to have the encouragement, motivation, and support to make those goals reachable. Once you get back on track and into a routine, you’ll find you feel great!
