About Gastric band Hypnotherapy

If you have an interest in hypnosis or hypnotherapy then you have probably noticed the recent attention that hypnosis gastric band procedures have been receiving. In this article I am going to explain what they are and how they work so well.

Most of you will be aware of gastric band surgery. It is where an inflatable silicone device is placed around the top portion of the stomach, in order to help weight loss. The placement of the band creates a small pouch, at the top of the stomach. This pouch holds around half a cup of food. (The typical stomach holds about 6 cups of food.) The pouch fills with food quickly, and the band slows the passage of food from the pouch to the lower part of the stomach. As the upper part of the stomach registers as full, it sends the brain a message that the entire stomach is full. This helps the person to be hungry less often, feel full more quickly and for a longer period of time, eat smaller portions, and consequently lose weight over time.

Although this surgery is safer and less invasive than other similar types of surgery such as stomach stapling, it is still not without its risks. Also the high costs involved are also a potential barrier to many people.

Hypnotherapy can remove these barriers by offering an alternative. Instead of actually going through with this surgery, a clinical hypnotherapist can instead convince your subconscious mind that you have undergone this procedure. They can guide you into a trance and talk you through the procedure as if it is actually happening. On a conscious level you will be aware that you have received hypnotherapy, but on a subconscious level you will believe you have actually received surgery.

This is important as the subconscious mind is responsible for your automatic habits. If it believes that you are no longer able to eat as much, then it will act accordingly. It isn't a problem that the conscious part of the mind is aware that you haven't undergone surgery – the two can coexist just fine with different beliefs.

An example of this is spider phobia. A person can in their rational conscious mind conclude that a spider is small and fairly harmless. They can understand this perfectly well, yet their subconscious mind believes otherwise and activates the automatic fear response.

So a person can, on a conscious level, know very well that they have received hypnotherapy, but their subconscious mind can fully believe it has undergone a medical procedure, and behave accordingly.

A hypnosis gastric band procedure can be done at a much lower cost than surgery, and carries virtually no risk. The body remains the same, its just that the subconscious mind, the part responsible for automatic urges and habits, believes and acts like actual surgery has been done. Once you are eating less, the knock on effects will be weight loss over time. So if you are thinking about having the surgery, or you are just interested in losing weight, then perhaps the hypnosis gastric band procedure is for you.
