Why Are We Fat?

Weight loss is huge. Every time we run into friends, someone is on a diet. Why is that?

Here are just a few reasons we are overweight to being with.

We don’t eat what nature has provided. We have to get back to nature with our eating. It is recommended that we eat 5 to 9 servings per day of fruits and vegetables. I challenge you to even get in 5 servings, much less 9. The nutrition, enzyme function, and fiber that come from these natural foods is unsurpassed, even if our soils are not as rich as they used to be.

We eat too much at one time. We have to eat more often. Doesn’t sound right, does it. Our bodies need constant fuel. When you are in your car, you don’t step on the gas pedal once then expect it to go for 4 hours do you? Our bodies are the same way, wanting a source of energy on a consistent basis. We get fat because we overeat to “hold us over” to our next meal. The body doesn’t know what to do with the excess except store it as fat.

We sit around way too much. I won’t say that you have to exercise because I personally think that exercise is a four letter word. What I will say is Get Moving. I am at my computer for 6 hours a day sometimes. However, my printer is one floor below me. So every time I want to get what is at the printer.... I have to go up and down a flight of steps. When I go to the store, I don’t drive around for 10 minutes trying to find the closest parking spot. I park in an open area of the lot and, bonus, my doors don’t get as many dings.

We don’t drink enough water. Water can be the key to curbing hunger. we decide to eat when our body is really hungry. When I tell people how much to drink, they look at me like I am insane. Yet if I asked them to “biggie size” a soft drink, it would be no problem to drink 2-3 of them a day.

We eat too many processed foods. This includes fast foods, snack foods, anything in a box. When you are in the grocery store, most of your items in your cart should come from around the walls, not in the aisles. The closer we can eat to nature, the happier our bodies are. This relates back to item #1.

Take one day at a time. It is really hard to change a bunch of habits all at once. Start with one item on the list, take your pick. Then implement that into you lifestyle for a week or two, then add another item from the list to change.

Before you know it, you will feel better, look better and probably weigh less.
