Why Do We Diet?

These days it seems everyone is going on “diets” eating “healthier” foods. My question here is: Why? To lose weight? To get healthier? To be miserable eating food you really don't like?

I never understood the whole Diet concept I mean really why eat something you really don't find that good and make yourself miserable for weeks or even months to have “bad” days that you beat yourself up over? Believe me I too want to stay “fit and trim” but that shouldn't mean selling myself out to some crazy diet fad that starves you and tastes like your significant others not so amazing cooking!

I am not saying all health food is bad I just think you can spice it up and use something “dieters” would consider not part of their diet and still be okay to eat it and not have any issue. I mean I know I for one don't look forward to eating Tofu burgers. Why not get a very lean choice of hamburger instead? You can always use the Lean Mean Grilling Machine to help get even more “fat” off your burger. And just make a thin patty instead of a jumbo sized one. With that you don't have to have a bun either.. but if you want one you can use slices of bread as a bun and it will still taste just as good (can even be wheat or multi grain). A low fat cheese, tomato, lettuce, and any other weird thing you may put on it can still be used.. As for condiments you don't have to skip out on them either just be light on them you don't have to use a ton of ketchup, mustard or mayonnaise to make it taste good a thin coating works just as well. That sound's better than Tofu any day!

What people don't realize is that you don't have to eat icky stuff to maintain a good lifestyle. No I am not saying you can eat fried foods all the time and it's okay. Just saying hey, tomorrow night is a special night I think I want some KFC chicken, you shouldn't have to feel bad about that. Just don't over do it have a small, medium sized piece and be done with it. Don't have 3 or 4 pieces then later on come back for more. Just think moderation. Most everything is “unhealthy” if eaten in large portions. I don't think eating white rice with a couple pieces of broccoli on top is very appetizing. Why not spice it up use some marinated chicken and some other marinades with low fat or low sodium to give it flavor and just eat a small portion of still pretty healthy stuff instead of hating every bite and being unhappy.

If someone in your family or a friend wants to take you out to lunch don't say no because you're on a “diet” and can't have “that” food. Not all dinning out dishes are unhealthy for you a lot of restaurants now make a health section for those whom are cautious about it. But I advise you to actually treat yourself to something that isn't diet or top of the line healthy. Have that fish and chips, or that yummy looking burger and fries. Why? Because you don't have to eat the whole thing! Have a quarter or half of it and a few fries then pack it up to go for another day or to give to someone else. Don't beat yourself up for not eating gross “diet” foods. In the end I would think you would want to live happy. Not worrying about whether this food is going to make you “fat” stressing about it will make you “fat”.

Along with eating you just have to exercise some to help your body maintain a healthy well being. But that doesn’t mean you have to hate that either.. make it fun. Dance, or play a video game like Wii Fit or other fitness games. Go to the gym with a friend instead of alone. Go for a bike ride or a walk. It doesn't have to be a downer. Your days should not be based on what you eat and misery for the lack of foods you want to eat. You should just be happy with your life. So jump off that “diet” bandwagon and start your own way of living healthier without the burden of all the “fad” diets and clone like thinking that everything is bad for you. Live life your way.
