The 50 Million Pound Challenge To Lose Weight

In April 2007, Dr Ian Smith, launched the 50 Million Pound Challenge. It is a challenge to get America to get fit and lose weight – 50 million pounds of weight.

More than 135 million Americans are overweight. It is estimated that more than two-thirds of adults and one-third of children in the United States are overweight. This trend seems to be on the rise, rather than decreasing over the past few decades.

Being overweight and inactive, increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, and joint problems. It is estimated that each week, 10,000 die from these weight-related illnesses.

As of January 2009, the Challenge has inspired more than 800,000 people collectively to log more than 3 million pounds of weight loss.

The 50 Million Pound Challenge is trying to make it easier for individuals to work together by motivating each other as a community to fight this epidemic of excess weight and weight-related illness. Individuals are encouraged to use the tools found at the website to log their own success, to use the story of their own success to encourage someone else, and to use someone else’s story to encourage that individual as they begin their own journey.

At the 50 Million Pound Challenge website you will find information about diet and exercise. You can register and use the tools there to track your progress. You can read others stories. You can write your own there to encourage others. The resources are free to use.

Your weight loss will be added to the other participants. Participating could also make you a cash winner in addition to being a winner of good health. Check it out and get started today.
