Kirstie Alley Debuts Organic Liaison Weight Loss System on Oprah

Kirstie Alley, 59, has launched a new weight loss system based on her years of struggling with her own weight. Previously the spokesperson for Jenny Craig, the star has been open about regaining her weight recently, weighing 228. At a height of 5’7”, Ms. Alley’s BMI is 35.7, putting her at a classification of severely obese.

Since January, Kirstie has been using her own program, based on “meals that I can keep in my closet” and has lost 20 pounds. She states that her biggest hurdles in weight loss are cravings and a large appetite.

The Organic Liaison program offers meal plans and recipes based on organic foods, weight tracking tools such as a food journal and progress chart, and a support program called “Body Game.” Monthly membership in the program is $10, or $89 for a year.

The program is based on the idea that environmental toxins contribute to weight gain by storing the chemicals in the fat cells and placing excess stress on the organs. According to a study published in the September 2006 journal Molecular Endocrinology, a class of environmental contaminants called organotins was linked with excess weight gain in laboratory mice by disrupting the normal function of fat cell receptors. Organotins are ingredients found in many household products, including pesticides, and are found in low concentrations in most humans and animals.

The Organic Liaison weight loss program also recommends against the consumption of other chemical food additives such as aspartame, sodium nitrate and hydrogenated fats. It promotes the consumption of organic fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants and other vitamins and minerals.

In addition to the promotion of organic foods, the program also offers a “Rescue Me” kit, consisting of nutritional supplements to reduce excess hunger and cravings. The “Rescue Me” Kit includes the “Rescue Me” elixir to reduce appetite and the “Release Me” supplement consisting of calcium and magnesium for strong bones.

Another supplement in the Rescue Me Kit include “Nightingale”, a liquid formula sleep aide containing vitamins C, B6, and folic acid and L-Tryptophan, an essential amino acid thought to enhance relaxation and sleep and helpful in reducing carbohydrate cravings. Inadequate sleep has been linked to weight gain because of the body’s increased release of the stress hormone cortisol.

The “Rescue Me Kit” is priced separately at $139.

Kirstie will chronicle her weight loss through the Organic Liaison program on her new A&E reality show “Kirstie Alley’s Big Life”, which debuts March 21 at 10pm.
