Truth About The 3 Day Tuna Diet

Sometimes when you're desperate to lose those extra 10 or 12 pounds for a special reason, you're tempted to look around for what seems like the quickest weight loss method that sounds like it may work. This is the main reason why the 3 day tuna diet is so popular, if you already enjoy eating tuna, then it can't be so bad to eat a little more of it in order to drop those stubborn pounds, right?

For those of you who don't like or can't eat tuna, you may be wondering: is there a substitute for tuna in the 3 day diet? Well, you are allowed to have a very small amount of chicken, peanut butter and vegetables, if that counts.

You see, this favorite tuna diet is better known as a crash diet. Crash diets are diets you follow over a short period of time to achieve extreme weight loss results. The three day time limit may lull you into a false sense of safety. I'm sure you feel there's not going to be any bad health related problems since it's only a short time you'll be on it.

Not so fast.

The truth is, the 3 day tuna diet last for an entire month. This is one of those diets that you have to go on for three days, then off for four days, then back on it again for three days, and so on. Supposedly during this time period you'll be steadily losing weight because of the low amount of fat and calories you're consuming while on the diet.

That's the ideal situation, but it rarely turns out that way. This diet just doesn't contain enough calories and nutrients to keep you satisfied for the entire three days. Because of the low nutritional value, you will most likely experience some serious food cravings while on it.

And you know where food cravings usually lead, don't you?

That's right. Binging on anything you can get your hands on because you're so darn hungry. So, even if you CAN manage to stick to this tuna diet faithfully for the entire time, your off diet days will become a constant struggle to maintain the weight that you've lost, due to the fact that you'll be tempted to eat foods that fill you up and make you happy. Foods that contain lots of fat and carbs.

This is a normal experience on these kinds of crash diets, that's why they are largely considered to not be worth the effort. You'll lose some weight, then gain it right back in a never ending cycle of yo-yo dieting.

Is this what you really want?

I didn't think so.

There are much better ways to lose weight. Find a diet plan that keeps you feeling healthy and fulfilled for the entire duration. This is your best shot at actually keeping those unwanted pounds off for good.
