A Guide To Controlling Food Cravings With Success

So you have made the choice to be serious about losing some weight. The biggest challenge is controlling your food cravings. It is extremely hard, but is it not impossible and you can control those cravings. While some people can control cravings with just will power, it is not as simple for most people. The following are some tips to help you control your food cravings during your quest to lose some weight:

1. Make a plan for your diet. Write down what you will eat for each meal of the day and for snacks throughout the day. Having that plan with you will help because you will know what you can consume and what you can not consume. You will know every time when you stray from your diet plan.

2. Learn to avoid the bad foods. When you are under a diet, it would be basic to know which foods you can actually consume and which ones you have to avoid. Instead of making yourself suffer from the sights and smells of your favorite foods, then learn to avoid any of them. One practical way to do so is to clean your fridge from these foods. Be sure to only stock up on those that are on the “allowed foods” list. Controlling food cravings is much easier if you do not have the temptation within easy reach.

3. Add nuts to your diet. You can actually temper hunger pangs if you eat nuts and drink water. Studies show that food cravings tend to pass by if you snack on nuts and drink water in between meals. Be sure to stock up on nuts and bottled water at home, in the office and even on the go. That way, you will not have to pity yourself whenever you feel the need to consume something.

4. Power naps are good for your diet. You should not take a nap in the hopes of forgetting the foods you want to eat. You should take power naps because food cravings actually sneak up when we are tired. In controlling food cravings, you need to be ahead. Make sure that you do not reach the end of the line when it comes to physical and mental tiredness.

5. Learn to distract yourself. Distracting yourself is not denying your food cravings. To distract yourself, you have to do something that you find satisfying or enjoyable. When you feel the craving sneaking in, then you can do something you like – read a book, call a loved one, exercise, listen to music or meditate. Since cravings usually last up to ten minutes, you can let it pass you when you distract yourself for that duration by doing something pleasant.

6. Set a short time or day to give in. In controlling food cravings, it is proven that periodically giving in to your cravings can actually do you good. When you avoid your favorite foods for long periods, you can crave for more because of the feeling of self deprivation. You can do better in controlling food cravings by allowing yourself to indulge in small portions of your favorite foods at set times. For instance, you can allow yourself to eat one slice of your favorite chocolate cake once a week. That way, you will feel satisfied and not deprived.
