Losing Weight After Birth with Five Simple Steps

You can lose weight after birth and get your lean, sexy pre-baby body back, but it’s going to take some effort. However, if you’re motivated, there’s no reason why you can’t lose every pound that you gained while you were pregnant. Too many women think of having a baby as an excuse to avoid exercise. They reason that they’re too busy and too tired, what with the new baby and all, so they do nothing and then wonder why they never seem to be able to drop that baby weight.

Losing weight after giving birth doesn’t have to be hard, and it can even be fun. It also puts your body back in an optimum state of health. Here are five ways you can do it, starting today:

1. Breastfeed for as long as possible. Breastfeeding burns up the stored fat in your body. In fact, you can easily burn up to 500 calories a day while breastfeeding. So, not only is it super-healthy for your baby, it’s beneficial for you, too.

2. Drink at least 10 glasses of water every day. Each glass should hold at least eight ounces of liquid. The water will flush toxins from your system and keep you feeling satisfied and full between meals. Since you won’t feel as much like snacking when you’re drinking water all day, you won’t be piling on extra calories.

3. Choose foods that are high in lean protein. Protein-rich foods will make you feel full without eating too much, and will stave off new hunger for longer in between meals. Things like lean meats (especially turkey and chicken), nuts, seeds, peanut butter, and beans of all kinds are all high in protein and very good for you.

4. Avoid sugary foods and heavily processed foods. These things will be full of empty calories that will keep the pounds on you without giving you any health benefit whatsoever. Sugary foods will also drain your energy and lower your immune function.

5. Get at least three hours of light to moderate exercise a week. You don’t have to work out like you’re training for the Olympics. All it takes is some brisk walking, swimming, or physically demanding household chores (like vacuuming the carpets) to burn excess calories and help you lose weight after birth.
