A Simple Weight Loss Trick That Still Works

Every day there is some new diet or miracle pill that promises instant weight loss. If you’ve been through the cycle of yo-yo diets then you probably know that very few of those gimmicks really work. By trying to lose weight artificially you often only create the opposite effect long term. The truth is that losing weight is not rocket science. Eat properly and get some exercise. Why then do we look for “alternatives” when the formula is really quite simple?

The real problem is not with knowing what to do, its more about actually doing it. Its about getting yourself to eat well and getting yourself to exercise. For many its easier said than done though. The short term “pain” of exercising when you don’t feel like it overshadows the pain of being overweight. The short term pain of resisting those jelly donuts overshadows the pain of looking at your self in the mirror and feeling terrible about your own body.

So, how can we change all that? Well, there are many way. Exerting a lot of will power is one way, but very few people succeed with that. There one trick that really works is this: set a goal and commit to it fully.

I know you are probably sick of hearing about setting goals, but once you set a realistic and exciting goal and you commit to it, it can help you break through all the short term barriers. Be very clear about your goal. Say exactly how much weight you want to lose, by when and then write it out and sign it. Put it somewhere you can see it every day and start building the image in your mind of already having it achieved.

Although this sounds very simple, it works. It always has and still do. All great athletes use this. In fact, anyone that succeeds at anything in life does this. When you set a goal your mind immediately starts working with you. When you have to constantly use will power your mind is actually working against you. Setting a weight loss goal has the power to move you to action – even when you don’t “feel like it”.

The picture of your goal being achieved and you being at your ideal weight can help you break through the short term barriers and get you to do what you know you ought to be doing to lose weight and feel great about yourself and your body.
