Cryolipolysis Procedure – The Process of Freezing Fat

Do you want your unwanted fatty bulges removed without surgery, pills, exercise equipment, or sweat? Cryolipolysis is a new, non-invasive fat reduction procedure that gently and effectively reduces fat in targeted areas of your body, resulting in noticeable, natural-looking body contouring in the treated areas.

The cryolipolysis is performed in a doctor’s office and involves placing a flat, saucer-shaped, suction-cup device (approximately 3-4cm wide) on the area of treatment. The device cools rapidly and is held on the area between 5-20 minutes. This method affects, or “freezes”, the subcutaneous layers of fat tissue without disturbing the normal temperature of the epidermis. In animal studies, fat breakdown has been shown to occur at -1 degree Celsius (approximately 31 degrees Fahrenheit). Since treatment areas need to reach cold enough temps in increments, one session can last up to one hour, with additional sessions needed on a case-by-case basis.

Advantages

This non-invasive fat removal procedure is best suited for eliminating thick fat build up in small areas, such as potbellies, love handles and back rolls. Your body is beautifully reshaped without damaging the nerves, blood vessels and bones present in the treatment area. It is non-invasive, pain-free.

Disadvantages

The body reshaping treatment produces mild side effects. Patients usually experience numbness in the treatment area from the excess cold. The numbness might last for a few hours. There could be redness and mild ache for a few days. Some health experts fear that the liver might be forced to overwork to eliminate the excess dead fat cells from the body. This would cause fatigue and lethargy. Cryolipolysis cannot remove fat from large areas such as the thighs and bottom.

How does Cryolipolysis work?

No needles, no incisions, no anesthesia, cryolipolysis works by using precisely controlled, targeted cold therapy in a treatment that lasts about one hour per treatment area. The skin to be treated is suctioned between two cooling plates which take the fat to just above freezing. The cold extracts energy from fat causing it to die. Though it is referred to as cryolipolysis, it is not actually “freezing” the fat or the surrounding tissues. Rather, it crystallizes the lipids in fat cells causing the slow collapse of cells as they die. The procedure is biologically selective meaning that it only targets fat cells and only those in the superficial fat layer close to the skin. The body then carries off the dead freeze-dried fat cells over the course of two to three months so that the result is seen more gradually.

Another benefit is the feeling of being trimmer, fitter, and sexier.
