Belly Fat Tea Weight Loss Benefits

Belly fat tea might be the best herbal treatment for weight loss based on scientific research. Caffeine is not the active ingredient, so teas that offer caffeine alone as the metabolic booster are not as effective as the best weight loss tea. Here is what you must know about this tea for losing belly fat.

The Top Tea

Teas can be made from dozens of different kinds of herbs. A tea is simply a beverage made by steeping herbal material in hot water. All supermarkets and nutrition stores carry a multitude of herbal teas, usually in a special section of the store.

The tea that you want to look for as a weight loss supplement or drink is made from just one species of plant, Camellia sinensis. This species gives us green tea, black tea, white tea, and oolong tea. Different types of teas come from various combinations of leaves, leaf buds, and internodes.

This is the tea that offers the best active ingredients for losing belly fat. Those ingredients are called catechins, the main one being epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG. Note, however, that EGCG is not present in black tea. The best sources of EGCG are green tea and white tea.

How To Choose The Best Belly Fat Tea Product

Extracts offer a more consistent and more efficient source of EGCG. This means that formulas containing tea extracts are better than the whole herb. Brewing your own tea is fine, just not as reliable for weight loss. You can never really know what the dose of EGCG is in a brewed tea. This also goes for supplements that contain powdered tea leaves instead of extracts.

Studies show that the daily dose of EGCG that gives the best results for weight loss is around 300 milligrams per day. The key, therefore, is to choose a product that clearly states how much EGCG you can expect in a serving of 1 to 2 capsules per day of white or green tea extract.

Several supplement companies offer good weight products that contain EGCG from green or white tea. All nutrition stores carry multiple products that fit the bill. Just don't fall for any wild claims that one product is hugely superior to all others. As long as they are labeled with the amount of EGCG, you can be confident of what you are buying.

More Than Weight Loss

Most studies of the effects of EGCG show that it increases the thermogenic effect of food, meaning that it helps you burn more calories. A bonus to this effect is also possible when you exercise. A 2009 study published in the Journal of Nutrition compared a treatment using green tea containing 625 milligrams of catechins and 39 milligrams of caffeine versus a treatment of 39 milligrams of caffeine alone between two groups of people who did at least 180 minutes of moderate intensity exercise per week for 12 weeks. This study showed the catechin group to have a greater loss in total abdominal fat area, subcutaneous abdominal fat (i.e., belly fat), and fasting serum triglycerides. This suggests that the benefits of a daily intake of green tea catechins from whole extract can be boosted with just a little bit of moderate exercise.
